Effect Of Consultative Participation On Employees’ commitment: Evidence From The Non-academic Staff Of Ekiti state University

Abstract

This study examines the influence of consultative participation on the commitment of non-academic staff in selected universities in Ekiti State, Nigeria. Adopting a quantitative research approach, data were collected through structured questionnaires distributed to 367 respondents selected using proportionate sampling from four institutions. The analysis employed both descriptive and inferential statistics, including Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) regression, to evaluate the relationship between consultative participation and employee commitment. Results indicate a significant positive correlation, suggesting that greater involvement in institutional decision-making fosters higher levels of employee commitment. Staff who are actively engaged in consultative processes tend to show increased dedication, job satisfaction, and alignment with organizational objectives. The study concludes that consultative participation is a key strategy for enhancing employee morale and boosting institutional performance. It recommends that university management implement inclusive decision-making frameworks to strengthen workforce commitment and promote long-term organizational effectiveness.
